A man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, dreaded even thinking about the condition of his roof. In fact, after two years of contemplating doing necessary upgrades, he finally decided to undertake a project for veterans while attending to his needed roof repairs, and now, the neighborhood and even the entire nation have been left stunned when they see what he did.
Rick Gabaldon beams with American pride, but when it comes to home maintenance, he procrastinates until his updates are necessary.
In fact, after nearly two years of knowing that he was in need of a new roof, he finally decided to tend to it while also embarking on a project for veterans, and the entire neighborhood would be left stunned when they realized what he had done to his home.
Rick admits that he appreciates the sacrifices veterans make for our country and believes “a flag should be flown every day by everybody,” according to KOB4. Knowing that he needed a new roof on his home, he decided to take his appreciation one step further by turning his roof into a symbol of freedom – The American Flag.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for the last two years,” Rick admits. “The roof had become very deteriorated.” The idea initially came to mind for Rick when he wanted to pay respect to his late father, Bert Gabaldon, who served during World War II.
Knowing that Memorial Day was coming up, he decided that it was a good opportunity to redo his roof and pay respect to both his father and other service members.
“The neighbors first kind of freaked out a little bit but once they understood where I was coming from, they understood,” he said. “We might not all agree on the politics and the way our country is run sometimes but we do live in a free country, be proud of that.”
Rick hopes to finish the 30-foot by 90-foot display by the end of next week. In fact, he plans on putting in “glow-in-the-dark stars in the blank blue field,” according to Biz Pac Review. He simply concludes, “From me and my family to all the veterans, thank you.”
Although America was once filled with pride, it seems that the American people’s patriotism has slowly begun to diminish, especially over the last 8 years. However, when people like Rick begin to show off their appreciation for our nation, it encourages the rest of us conservatives to do something similar.
Of course, we’re not implying you turn your roof into a flag, but at least place one on display in your yard for all to see, especially on a day like Memorial Day. Every soldier who died in battle deserves the remembrance and recognition from us all for their ultimate sacrifice.
